As the Nation begins the world’s largest immunization exercise against COVID-19 targeting healthcare personnel and frontline workers in the first phase, Southern Railway also joined the mission and launched the COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign today, 21st of January 2021 at Southern Railway Head Quarters Hospital, Perambur.
Shri John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway inaugurated the vaccination drive at Perambur Railway Hospital in the presence of Shri B.G.Mallya, Additional General Manager, Dr. V. Nirmala Devi, Principal Chief Medical Director, other Officers and Staff. Dr M.S.Hemalatha, City Medical officer, Greater Chennai Corporation also participated in the inauguration of the exclusive Vaccination Facility at Perambur Railway Hospital. Speaking at the event, General Manager thanked the Greater Chennai Corporation officials for extending their best co-operation in the supply of vaccine to Railway hospital. He expressed pride in the altruistic service rendered by the Healthcare Staff during pandemic times.
Dr. C.V.N. Murthy, Medical Director, Perambur Railway Hospital was the first to receive the dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Dr. Soumitra Sinha Roy who is spearheading the fight against COVID-19, Dr. J. Chitra, Addl. Chief Health Director, Nodal Officer for Covid19 vaccination and Healthcare Workers of Southern Railway Hospital, Perambur, ICF Hospital and Health Units of Chennai Division were also vaccinated.
Southern Railway’s Headquarters Hospital at Perambur has received 500 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, as initial consignment, from Greater Chennai Corporation to be administered to the priority group comprising of Doctors, Nurses and other health workers. 1240 healthcare workers of Perambur Hospital, ICF Hospital and Chennai Division Hospitals will be vaccinated in this phase.

Exclusive Vaccination Facility at Perambur Railway Hospital
A separate facility has been created in the Perambur Railway hospital where the vaccination program will be carried out. This vaccination center is fully equipped to administer vaccines for 100 beneficiaries on a daily basis.
Four Vaccination officers are posted in the location. Vaccination Officer-I posted at the entry point will ensure that the beneficiaries entering the Vaccination Centre has received the vaccination schedule through SMS and duly adhering to all COVID standard operating protocols. Vaccination Officer-II will scrutinize the credentials of the beneficiaries against the list of registered beneficiaries available in the CoVID Portal and authorize vaccination. Then beneficiary will be guided to the vaccination room where the vaccination will be administered by Vaccination Officer-III. After administration of the vaccine the beneficiary will be mandated to wait in the Observation Hall for about 30 minutes for reporting of any difficulties if any experienced under the supervision of Vaccination Officer-IV.
An exclusive observation facility under an Anesthetist and a Physician are set up at vaccination Centre with beds, oxygen supply and ventilators to render supportive care to manage any adverse reactions that may occur after vaccination.
