Southern Railway has announced upgrade of speed on the Chennai Egmore-Madurai route from 100 km/h to 110 km/h.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has approved the increase in maximum permissible speed after conducting inspection in the section.
All observations made by the CRS during the inspection has been complied with after undertaking various track improvement works and after conducting several speed trials in that section, said a statement released by the zone.
Necessary advice shall be given to Loco running staff and guards through internal communication for running of trains at 110 km/h, added the statement.
Indian Railways has begun work to upgrade the Golden Quadrilateral and diagonals to 130 km/h for all capable rolling stock. Speed on these routes is set to be upgraded to 160 km/h by 2024, according to V K Yadav, CEO, Railway Board.
