Southern Railway has bagged haulage business for gypsum from Chennai Port to Bidadi near Bengaluru for multinational Saint Gobain.
The first rake was loaded today, 3rd October 2020. 45 BOST wagons were loaded with 2,835 tons of gypsum. Freight revenue earned for the shipment was Rs. 14.05 lakhs, said a statement from the zone.
Gypsum was earlier transported by road. 55,000 tons of gypsum originating from Oman has been unloaded at Kamarajar port at Chennai. The rest of the unloaded material will also be shipped to Bidadi by rail, expects Southern Railway.
