As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week being observed from 28th October to 2nd of November 2019, a seminar was organised at the Southern Railway Headquarters today on Forensic Accounting.
Specialist Chartered Accountant Shri. C.A.T.R. Chandrasekaran, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Shri J.Vishwanathan, Principal Financial Advisor, Southern Railway, Smt.V G Bhooma, Sr Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Officer, Southern Railway, Senior Railway Officers and Staff participated in the seminar.
Shri Chandrasekaran gave an outline of the scope of the emerging field of Forensic accounting. Terming it as an extension of the Vigilance Department, he said that use of Accounting skills to investigate any misappropriation of money and to analyse financial information for use in legal proceedings has defined the role of Forensic Accounting with which many system defects and fraudulent accounting practices has been found and corrected.
Contending that the protection of performing assets of the organisation from any financial irregularity or fraud is the foremost duty of any employee, he said that Forensic Accounting has become a vital tool in the identification and elimination of such financial threats such as breach of contract, breaches of warranties, Bankruptcy, insolvency, Tax fraud, and Money laundering, using financial data analytics and leveraging technology.
A series of outreach programmes has been planned throughout the Vigilance Awareness Week all over Southern Railway. The programmes include 1) Awareness seminar with all the Divisions through Video conference. 2) Awareness programmes to the grass root level employees at major stations. 3) Expert series lectures on Asset Integrity Monitoring Technology 4) Forensic Accounting and Intelligent Re-fuelling Solutions for Railways 5) Customer Grievance Redressal Camps in all important stations. 6) Distribution of pamphlets and booklets containing “do’s and don’t’s” in Railway working. 7) Suggestions Scheme for best System Improvement given by Officers/ Employees 8) Run for Unity/Walkathon (on 31/10/19) 9) Quiz, essay competitions, elocution etc for children/ students in schools, colleges, Railway Institutes. 10) Railway Vigilance helpline No.155210
