In an attempt to reduce unnecessary detentions at Vijayawada station, South Central Railway has commissioned important remodelling work in the station yard, a statement from the zone has claimed.
SCR states that remodelling work has focussed on the northern end of the station yard. The zone expects this work to reduce surface crossings and allow more simultaneous movements.
Key Yard Modifications at Vijayawada
- New Bulb Cabin has been commissioned with Electronic Interlocking and 32 possible routes.
- New West Block Hut (NWBH) cabin has been shifted and commissioned with 20 routes to provide connectivity with the newly added 1.5 km line.
- Two existing cabins have been altered to take into account the new yard modifications.
Key Benefit of Streamlined Movement and Reduced Detention
- Avoid surface crossings and allow simultaneous train movements, particularly for trains operating from Secunderabad – Vishakhapatnam and vice versa.
- Avoid train detentions particularly for trains operating between Secunderabad – Vishakhapatnam and Vijayawada – Vishakhapatnam
- Enhance the sectional capacity allowing the possibility of handling more trains.
- Enhance the average speed of the trains in the section.
- Provide hassle-free and seamless movement of train movements through the yard.
Vijayawada is a major junction on the North-South Golden Diagonal. This is also where the East-South Golden Quadrilateral line merges with the North-South Golden Diagonal.
As a result, cross-movement of trains on the Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam route often resulted in detentions and cascading delays to trains on other routes. The yard modification work is expected to help reduce delays and improve average speeds as a result, according to South Central Railway.
