South Western Railway says it has achieved its best ever punctuality performance in the financial year 2020-21. According to information provided by the zone in a statement, 96.27 per cent punctuality was achieved in the year that ended on 31st March 2021.
The Railway Ministry had set a target of 88% for the zone. SWR is now ranked 4th nationwide in terms of punctuality, a significant improvement from 16th in FY 2019-20.
This is a significant achievement considering that SWR is operating 70% of Mail/Express trains compared to Pre-Covid19 days (61 pairs out of 86 pairs of M/E trains have been restored). This number of restoration of trains is the highest in all the Zones of Indian Railway. SWR has achieved this feat despite carrying out a record number of new line works (52 km), doubling (207 km), electrification (303 km) in FY 2020-21.
