South Western Railway has announced a new Yesvantpur – Mangaluru Central Tri Weekly express effective February 22.
The train will leave Mangaluru Central at 19.00 hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It will reach Yesvantpur at 05.00 hours the next day. In the return direction, it will leave Yesvantpur at 16.30 hours on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, arriving Mangaluru Central at 04.00 hours the next day.
Yesvantpur Departure
Travellers are miffed at the days of run and the departure timings at Yesvantpur towards Mangaluru Central.
Srinivasa Rao, a regular visitor to Subrahmanya Road to offer prayers at the temple which is his family deity, said “the departure of 16.30 is way too early. The IT professional working in far flung suburbs may have to lose a day’s leave to take this train.”
“It would make perfect sense to have this train depart at around 20.00 hrs and get to Mangaluru Central at around 07.00 hrs. ‘The return timings from Mangaluru Central to Yesvantpur are almost perfect,” he adds.
These small things can make a huge difference between the success and the failure of the train, travellers said.
“The passenger unfriendly timings for the Yesvantpur Mangaluru Central could be due to unavailability of a departure path at Yesvantpur or due to the fact that the train cannot be received at Mangaluru except at that time,” said Rao.
Till these timings and days of run are tweaked, a majority of the travellers will be forced to rely on private buses that ply on this route.
