The section Traction Sub Station (TSS) at Kariganuru was charged, to serve upcoming Electrification between Kariganuru and Harlapur, was commissioned on 2nd August 2020.
This allows the overhead Railway Electrification lines to be charged by catering the 25 KV AC supply. This TSS will supply electricity to AC locomotives and enable running of trains up to 92 Km. This section is going to be offered to Commissioner of Railway Safety for permitting the running of Passenger trains powered by Electrical Locomotives.
With the TSS being commissioned at Kariganuru now electric traction is being run up to Harlapur. With this now, Section between Ballari to Harlapur (132 Km) is fully electrified.
With this Traction Substation, mobility of train services on the section will improve once Electric trains start running. In addition to reduction in pollution; economy and efficiency of Train operations will improve due to shift from traction of trains from Diesel to electricity.
Electrification Work Done So Far
During the last financial year 197 Km of electrification was done in South Western Railway which includes Ballari-Tornagallu (34 km) Tornagallu – Ranjithpura (23 Km), Ballari-Rayadurg (53 Km), Rayadurg – Thalaku (48 Km) and Baiyyappanahalli – Anekal (34 Km) .
The work of Electrification between Ballari to Hubballi is being done by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited. It was made possible under the able guidance of Shri B.G. Mallya, PCEE and Shri Arvind Malkhede, DRM /UBL.
