Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that It was time to rewrite the destiny and future of Railways which is self-sustaining, punctual, passenger-friendly, safe, green and the first choice of businesses. He was speaking during the review of the Indian Railways with officials.
“In future, success of Indian Railways would define the success of the Nation,” said Goyal, to Board Members, General Managers of Zonal Railways and Divisional Railway Managers. Goyal also said that 1,223 million tons of freight loading, the highest ever, is a message of positivity to the nation.
Minister Goyal also complimented Indian Railway officers & staff for making extraordinary efforts to increase freight loading during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also stressed safety measures to be adopted and directed Railway officials to take proactive steps towards this.
Indian Railways is expected to surpass the total cumulative freight figures for last the last financial year. Freight Revenue for the Year 2020-21 is Rs. 1,14,652.47 crores as compared to Rs. 1,12,358.83 crores in 2019-20, registering a growth of +2%. During this period, 5.900 km of route was also electrified by Indian Railways.
