Western Railway’s Mumbai Division has set up a Multi-Disciplinary Divisional Training Institute (MDDTI) at Valsad. This training institute will impart technical training in their respective professional field to the Group ‘C’ and Group ‘ D ‘ employees of Mumbai Central Division.the institute has been set up as per the guidelines of Railway Board. The institute boasts of Administrative Block, Canteen, Library, Computer Centre, Auditorium, Medical Room, Gymnasium, Entertainment Room etc. The institute at Valsad has been set up at a cost of Rs 2.75 Cr. A double storey hostel is also being constructed at Valsad Institute, which is likely to be completed in September 2021 with a provision of 100 beds to accommodate the trainees.The idea to have such an institute is to have a sole core training institute providing technical courses for the employees of Mumbai Central Division. The objective of training in MDDTI is to provide skills in line with latest technological innovations and new requirements. Some of the courses at Valsad institute have already been tailored, with one such course to be started in a week.
The courses will be interdisciplinary and cross functional, which will help in achieving the objectives of the training at MDDTI viz. Evolution of Transportation & Urban Transportation , Role of Indian Railways in country’s economy, Information Technology, Organisation behaviour and leadership etc, It is very important that with time and technology improving, professionals will require reskilling and hence the courses are planned on these lines. The Benefits of MDDTI is to impart class room training to new recruits of Mumbai Division, refresher training to serving employees to update them with latest rules, regulation and working conditions, pre selection training to the staff eligible for promotion. At present the training imparted will be recorded and will be shared through MMCT Learning Management System, which can be assessed by the staff through online mode. An online training in Advance excel and Microsoft Power BI tool had been organised, which was attended by more than 100 officers and staff of Mumbai Central Division. The training was imparted on weekends, which received a good response. An online training is planned for frontline staff to upgrade their skills.
This training institute has been set up to develop it as a Centre of Excellence for Training. The Railways are taking a lot of strategic steps in moving from current state to desired state. As per NITI Aayog, every Railway Zone should have one Zonal Training Institute – which of WR is coming up at Ujjain, every Division must have one MDDTI and Workshops should also have a Basic Training Centre. Work of Ahmedabad Institute is almost complete, whereas that of Ratlam and Bhavnagar Divisions is also 80% complete. It is planned to open up the training institutes at 5 Divisions in this year. The Basic Training Centre for workshops will be commissioned at Parel, Dahod and Pratapnagar Workshops
