Western Railway has managed to achieve its best-ever monthly freight performance, with 8.14 million tons of goods loaded in October 2020.
It had achieved its previous best in January 2015 at 7.96 million tons. Loading in October 2019 was at 6.8 million tons. The zone achieved average loading of 5,029 wagons per day in October 2020.
According to Sumit Thakur, CPRO WR, 1.63 lakh tons of goods have been transported by parcel trains from the start of the lockdown on 23rd March 2020.
474 Covid-19 special parcel trains with a load of more than 52 thousand tonnes were also run to transport various essential commodities.
In addition, 59 indented rakes carrying about 26 thousand tons were also run with almost 100% utilization. During the period from 22nd March till 31st October 2020, total 20,045 rakes of goods trains have been used by WR to supply essential commodities amounting to 42.98 million tonnes.
