WR: Additional Parcel Train on Karambel-New Guwahati, 37.4 Lakh Passengers Cancel Tickets in Zone

Two trips of one more special parcel train are planned to be run between Karambeli and New Guwahati by Western Railway.

Train No 00903 Karambeli – New Guwahati parcel special train will leave Karambeli at 18.00 hrs on 16th May, 2020 and will reach New Guwahati on 18th May, 2020 at 15.30 hrs.

Similarly, Train No 00904 New Guwahati – Karambeli parcel special train will leave New Guwahati on 19th May 2020 at 05.00 hrs and will reach Karambeli at 03.20 hrs on 21st May 2020. The train will halt at Bhusaval Jn, Khandwa, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn, Patliputra, Sonpur, Katihar, New Jalpaiguri and New Bongaigaon stations in both directions.

Western Railway’s Parcel Express trains are on the move as per the timetable during the lockdown period in the wake of COVID19. Western Railway is fulfilling the important responsibility of transporting most essential items like medical equipments, medicines, food grains etc across the nation, as it has always been fully committed to the needs of its customers. WR is also ensuring the supply of milk and milk products to different parts of the country through its milk special trains.

32,300 Tons of Goods Transported by Western Railway

Since 23rd March to 14th May 2020, commodities weighing more than 32300 tonnes have been transported by Western Rly, which included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc. The earnings generated through this transportation, has been approx Rs 9.57 crore.

Twenty-seven milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of approx  19800 tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of more than Rs 3.39 crore. Similarly, 181 Covid-19 special parcel trains were also run to transport essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was approx Rs 5.40 crore.

In addition, 4 indented rakes were also run with 100% utilization for earnings of approximately Rs. 78 lakh. Shri Bhakar stated that from 22nd March to 14th May, 2020, total 3782 rakes of goods trains have been used to supply essential commodities amounting to 7.33 million tonnes.

7632 freight trains were interchanged with other railways, including 3841 trains handed over and 3791 trains taken over at different interchange points. 214 Millennium Parcel rakes of Parcel Vans / Railway Milk Tankers (RMTs) have been sent to different parts of the country to cope with the demands of essential materials such as milk powder, liquid milk, medical supplies and other general consumer goods.

Seven parcel special trains, including a milk rake left from WR for various parts of the country on 15th May 2020, viz. Okha – Guwahati,  Dadar – Bhuj,  Bandra Terminus – Okha, Okha – Bandra Terminus, Rajkot – Coimbatore and Mumbai Central – Firozpur special trains.

One milk rake also ran from Palanpur to Hind Terminal.

Western Railway Loss of Earnings at 866 Crores

The total loss of earnings over Western Railway inclusive of suburban & non-suburban sections, since March 2020, has been Rs 866.49 crore on account of lockdown.

In spite of this, due to cancellation of tickets till now, Western Railway has refunded Rs 240.02 crore out of which, Mumbai Division of Western Railway has ensured refunds of Rs 115.96 crore.

Till now, 37.43 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
