To reduce crowding on railway platforms so as to prevent the spreading of corona virus (Covid-19), several railway zones hiked the platform ticket rate from Rs 10 to Rs 50 per ticket.
This measure has been implemented only in stations which are crowded and comes into effect immediately.
Stations on Western Railway include Ahmedabad, Surat, Bandra (T), Borivali, Udhna, Mumbai Central, Vapi, Dadar, Valsad, Navsari, Andheri, Vasai Road, Boisar, Nandurbar, Bilimora, Amalner, Virar, Palghar, Bandra, Bhayandar, Dahanu Road, Goregaon, Nalasopara, Vyara, Dondaicha, Churchgate and Malad.
On East Central Railway, 12 stations – Patna, Danapur, Patliputra, Rajendra Nagar (Bihar), Patna Sahib, Bakhtiyarpur, Barh, Ara, Mokama, Jahanabad, Bihar Sharof and Rajgir will hike rates from March 19, onwards.
On South Eastern Railway, the hike will be done at four stations -Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Rourkela and Jharsuguda.
Central Railway on its Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Bhusaval and Solapur divisions increased the rates till further advice.
On North Central Railway, this move has been implemented in Prayagraj, Kanpur, Prayagraj Chheoki, Mirzapur, Tundla, Etawah and Aligarh.
On South Central Railway, all major stations which fall under the non-suburban group (NSG- 1to 4) and all suburban stations, the platform ticket rate will be Rs 50 until March 31, 2020. For smaller stations (NSG 5 and 6) will be Rs 20 per ticket during the same period.
Finally, Southern Railway, also increased platform ticket rates at Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, and Tambaram railway stations.
By tomorrow, other railway zones are also likely to follow suit.
